How it started.. Kaylin’s Story

Hi, Kaylin here! Here is a little bit about me and how it all started. I moved to Maine when I was 10 from Florida (what a change that was) and never left. I have always enjoyed traveling and art. I traveled to Europe as a teenager. I was always painting, creating pottery, jewelry and finding as many art classes as possible. I am someone who always has to be active. As a kid you could find me mostly at the beach or exploring the woods of Maine.

I am now married and a stay at home mom of a 3 year old and 8 year old. We love to travel with our children, so far for international trips they have been to Scotland and we often visit my husbands family in Brazil. There is something magical about showing your children the world.

As a parent I went from being a very busy working mom to a stay at home mom during a pandemic, with a newborn and a five year old. It was challenging to keep myself grounded.  I resorted to getting outside with my kids and exploring. I put my newborn in a carrier and running shoes on my 5 year old and we ran around small trails in town and spent sun up to sun down at the beach on the warmer days. We built sandcastles, fairy gardens and learned about the local wildlife. The pandemic helped us remember the beautiful outdoors we have and helped encourage me to get outside with my kids. Years after the pandemic like everyone else we slowly tried to interact with people again.
Being a mom it can be really hard to make friends. Let's be honest, our kids make friends faster than we do. Whether it's because you're shy or you just don't have the time, it's really difficult. I personally am very shy and not one to reach out first. One day when my son was in the first grade I got an email from a mom named Melissa. Our sons had really hit it off in the first months of school. I took a chance and said yes, let's meet up at the park! That was the start of a really great friendship that has blossomed into more than I ever thought on that day, I said yes let's have a playdate. Melissa being new to town with a love for the outdoors, myself being a long time local and adventurous we had the perfect balance. Fast forward we realized that we both love all that Maine has to offer and wanted to do more with that passion. We have taken a lot of time and effort to come up with activities and adventures for our kids. We always have a blast. We wanted to save other parents time and share our adventures and passion with you. Take the time to say yes to that parent whose kid really wants to play with yours or reach out for a playdate you just never know, it could be your new mom friend! I hope you enjoy our spin on Maine.
